Table Accessories

One important detail in decorating is making sure tables are accessorized well. I always love to use products such as books and frames that have importance and meaning to me. That way, the small details become the emotional and personal part of the room.

Old Antiques add history and a sense of time of where and when products such as this one were made and found
Books again bring a sense of history but also create dimension to an area with being a platform for other items such as flowers
Antique solid marble balls are placed here in an old crusty urn
*The marble balls were found in a dam in Georgia
This vignette has an array of products which I find beautiful placed together
*I love the shape and texture of this piece of coral
On my bedside, I have gilded frames with old photos in them along with books and of course, a lamp so that I can read at night
My vanity has antique brushes and perfume bottles
This side table next to the couch has a few different pieces though you must edit so your tables look cluttered
*The additions of candles and flowers are always great when you are hosting guests

A Client's Home

I wanted to share with you a client's home that I was asked to redecorate using the Amy Howard Home furniture and finishes. I am always inspired by seeing different interiors so I thought this may give you a few ideas for decorating your own home.
The Entryway before felt dark and uninviting
Afterwards, it became much more comfortable with the addition of the rug.
The lighting in the space made a huge change
I also love the way that the console table with the Antique Mirror acts as a statement piece
Here is another view of the Entry
 The Entry
It became so welcoming!
The Living Room
*The gilded details on the furniture come alive with the neutral tones of the room
The Dining Area
*The base of the table is finished in a Light Toscana finish
The Master Bedroom
*I love the symmetry that was created with the two Antique Mirror side tables placed on either sides of the bed
*Again, the bed was done in a Toscana finish with gilding
The Master Bedroom
*This chest becomes a center piece with the Dark finish and the Antique Mirror insets
*The chairs in front are finished in Toscana
*The little lucite cocktail table adds a modern touch to the room
The Little Girl's Bedroom
*The client's daughter was very girly
*This bedroom has White Lacquered little side chests on either side of the bed with gold hardware
*The headboard has a lightly Antique Mirror detail.

From these rooms, you can see how easily you can incorporate the Amy Howard At Home finishes within your own furniture!

“Katie’s vignette design was inspired by several vintage finds that blended modernity with graphic patterns and carved details.  The dining room/lounge design is anchored by a few key pieces that were given new life with a pop of color in lacquer, and the vignette is finished off with lighting and accessories in gold and white.  The overall look is fun, playful, and modern.”

Antiquing Zinc

The Amy Howard At Home Zinc Solution enables you to give metal the look of aged zinc.

Use the Antiquing Solution to oxidize and age the metal, then follow with an application of Light Wax to buff and seal.

Materials Needed:
-Amy Howard At Home Zinc Solution
-Plastic Container
-Degreaser Cleanser (such as Simple Green)
-Paper Towels
-Gloves
-T-shirt rag
-Your piece of galvanized sheet metal

*Before you start on your project, know that if your piece of metal has scratches or marks on it, that is OK!! It will make your Zinc piece look old and worn. Such great character!

You will need to clean your piece first. You a Degreaser to clean the entire surface of your metal. This will rid it of the greasy, oily feel of the metal.

With your paper towel, use the Degreaser in a circular motion to make sure you do not miss any coverage of your piece.

Allow your metal piece to dry thoroughly.

Pour your Amy Howard At Home Zinc Solution into your plastic container. (You may also use a Styrofoam bowl)

Before you dip your rag into your Amy Howard At Home Zinc Solution, make sure you are wearing gloves.

Use your t-shirt rag to soak up the Zinc Solution.
*You do not want the t-shirt rag to be drowning in solution. If you feel it is, lightly shake the rag. DO NOT SQEEZE!

Now, use your rag to lightly dab the metal. Dab and dot your rag in different directions and cover the whole piece of metal.

You will begin to see the oxidation process happen immediately. Your piece of metal with the solution on top will begin to turn black.
*If you see any missed areas, go back with your rag on the spot.

Leave the piece flat to dry for about 30 to 45 minutes.

As the solution begins to dry, you will begin to see the metal gradually turning into that dead, chalky finish of Antique Parisian Zinc.
*If you are using this for a counter top, vanity or top of any piece of furniture, be sure to seal it with wax, but if you desire a more chalky, blue green finish, do not seal it!

**Annual maintenance applications of Light Wax are recommended to protect your piece. Take a plain metal desktop from standard to special, or add a unique top to your kitchen island. Create an aged zinc finish on metal candlesticks or containers!

Monochromatic Color Palette

One of my favorite ways to decorate a room is using a monochromatic color palette. It gives a calming and peaceful environment. With using a monochromatic palette, I use a lot of texture in order to give life to the space without it feeling dull.

Tones of off-white in this Living Room.
*Love the concealed Flat Screen
Elegance and a yummy upholstered canopy
Great use off pattern with keeping in a monochromatic palette
Gray Dining Room
*I love the ceiling to floor drapes that match the wall color
Even in a girls room, the use of pink!
*The Palmer Pink One Step paint would be great to use for a cabinet like this!
