Featured Retailer: Courtney Farms

I am so excited to share with you our Featured Retailer this week, Courtney Farms located in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Courtney Farms is a retail garden, gift, and home décor shop.  The open air style of the shop offers customers a feel of being part of the outdoors as well as offer a sense of peace.  They sell plants, pots, furniture, and Amy Howard Home Products. Over the past six months, their One Step Paint workshops have been offered bimonthly.  They have found their customers are quite enthused about the “Trash to Treasure” workshops where the customer is able to bring in their own pieces to redo during the workshop.

As Stephanie explains "Exciting things are happening here at Courtney Farms! We are happy to announce that we are now a retailer of the amazing DIY Amy Howard At Home product line with product arriving! These products include many different ways to "Rescue, Restore, and Redecorate" old furniture, cabinets, mirrors, countertops,...this list goes on and on. We will be selling the One Step Paints, Waxes and Dusts, Powdered Micas, Silver & Gold Gilding, Zinc Solution, Antiquing Mirror Kit, High Performance Furniture Lacquer, and many other accessories to help you in your creative journey!Tori & I attended an intensive training in Memphis where we were taught to use the products so we can in turn teach the rest of our staff as well as our customers. The samples we worked on at the workshop will be on display within the store for a visual on what the products help to achieve.Again, we are so excited about carrying this product line, our minds are racing with ideas on the best way to bring this exciting product to our customers. AHAH Projects

I love to share ideas and beautiful finishes that customers have accomplished with using the Amy Howard At Home products so here below are a few that you could do yourself!

Before and After: Belize Lacquered Chair
This chair was rescued with the Belize Lacquer as well as new fabric for the cushion.
Thanks to Leigh Heagney for sharing her piece.

Rescued Antique Hutch
This beautiful Hutch was painted with Amy Howard At Home
Selznick Grey One Step Paint.
After the paint had dried, Bole, Gilding Size and Silver Leaf were added to a few
accents on the piece.
The hutch was then antiqued with both the Light and Dark Waxes.
The hardware was painted with the Black One Step Paint.
Thanks to Leigh Heagney for sharing her pieces.

Before and After: Changing Table
This piece is a Mid century changing table/dresser bought to be put in a nursery.
The dresser was purchased  at Restore Habitat for Humanity.
The drawer fronts were painted with the Amy Howard At Home Robin Egg Blue One Step paint. The knobs were replaced and it is ready to go!
Thanks to Cindy Fowinkle for sharing.

Before and After: Side Table
The table was painted with the Linen One Step Paint and antiqued
with the Light and Dark waxes.
Thanks to our retailer, Perfectly Random for sharing this rescued piece.

How To: Use Cracked Patina

The Cracked Patina is a product that gives you a fabulous texture when finished. I have chosen here to show an example using the Nottaway and Linen One Step paint colors as well as the Clear and Dark Waxes, followed by the Dust of Ages.

Materials Needed:
2 Different colors of Amy Howard At Home One Step Paint
Amy Howard At Home Cracked Patina
Piece you are finishing
T-shirt Rags
China Bristle Brushes
Amy Howard At Home Clear Wax
Amy Howard At Home Dark Wax
Amy Howard At Home Dust of the Ages

How to Instructions:
Apply your One Step Paint to any surface.
Your ending strokes should be long and with the grain of the piece you are painting.
Let it Dry!
Once the first One Step color top coat has dried,
you need to lightly sand with 320 grit sandpaper.
Apply the Cracked Patina.
Be sure that the coat of Cracked Patina is consistent and spread out.
Spread evenly and not too think.
Let it dry for at least 30 minutes.
Then you will apply your second color of One Step Paint.
We used Linen for this example.
Apply quickly as the reaction begins when the paint begins to dry.
Make sure to have 100% coverage of your paint color.
Once it is fully covered, watch as the patina drys for about 3 to 5 minutes.
You should be watching for the cracking effect of the paint and patina.
As the cracked patina begins to dry, the paint will begin a cracking effect.
Once this has become over majority of the piece, use a dry brush to begin pull paint.
**It is important that the second One Step color has began to dry.
After breaking up second color of One Step Paint with your brush,
finish pulling the paint with the palms of your hands.
This is my desired amount of removal.
After your desired amount of paint was removed, allow it to dry for up at least 30 minutes.
Once it was dried, apply Clear Wax to your piece.
Use your China Bristle Brush to get 100% coverage of the Clear Wax on your piece.
Then let the wax dry for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Then you will apply your Dark Wax but with a lighter amount than you did your Clear Wax.
You will then apply your Dust of the Ages.
Then you will buff with a t-shirt rag.
**As a side note here, we went back after buffing to add more dark wax for the desired look.
Here is the completed finish!
