Antique Inspiration

A great resource to find inspiration as I have said before is antiques. If you are not able to physically go antique shopping, there are many sources online now to browse though. One I love to see what is available is 1st Dibs. There are antiques from all periods, places, etc. I have found a few pieces below that inspired me with ways that you could take on your own project using the Amy Howard At Home products.

Inspiration:
Pair of Louiz XV Style Painted Armchairs
These chairs are from France in the style of Louis XV circa 1900
They are on sale for $1,800
Now you could use the Gilding Supplies to finish accents on your chairs
You must simply use the Bole, Gilding Size, and Gold Leaf to cover the piece.
Once you have laid down the gold leaf, in order to get that beautiful antique look,
use the Light Wax, Dark Wax, and Dust of Ages to finish off your piece.

Gilt Leafed Mirror
This gilded wooden frame was made in the 1960s in the US
The price on the pair is $2,800

You could restore pieces that you have found or bought using the Gilding Supplies
You would again need to use the Bole, Gilding Size, and Gold Leaf.
Depending on your desired look, you could wear the pieces as much or little as your wanted.

19th Century Desk
This writing desk is from France circa 1950
It is on sale for $4,495
You could use the Amy Howard At Home Black One Step Paint to paint your desk
Then use the Gilding Supplies to finish off accents on your desk with the Gold Leaf
It is important that you find a shape that you like but the process to gild is simple afterwards!

French Painted and Gilt Wood Mirror
This antique mirror dates back to 19th Century in France
It has a gorgeous painted finish on the wooden frame with gilded details
It is for sale for $2,450
In order to get a similar finish using the One Step, you could choose one of our lighter gray colors such as a the Chelsea Square or Luxe Gray and
proceed to add accents with the gilding supplies
I would then wax and dust it thoroughly depending on the amount of distress you want for the finished piece
Lastly, you could antique your own mirror using the Amy Howard At Home Antique Mirror Kit

Color Mixing: Chinese Red + Chelsea Square

Color is such an important part of design. We have 42 different One Step Paint colors but there are so many ways to mix the colors in order to get a different shade or tint that you are looking for. Below we have mixed the Chinese Red with the Chelsea Square to get a dark blush hue.

One Step Color Mixing:
½ Chinese Red + ½ Chelsea Square

I have put together inspiration images that you can use for this color combination!
Inspiration:
Blush pinks in various paint colors
The dark walls really allow the blush sofa to stand out
This floral arrangement adds a beautiful color pop!
Tones of red are used here mixed with pinks
This monochromatic bedroom looks gorgeous with the ceiling to floor curtains
Fashion items can inspire as well!
The repetitive use of blush works in this living room
The use of color on the one wall works well in this family room
Lastly, this cupboard brightens the mood in the cottage!

One Step Color Palette Inspiration

Today's color palette is made up of three bright colors! I felt it would be fun for summer to put together a palette that livens up any room! With using the colors, they really do not all have to be used with strong impact, but rather for accents. It is important not to overpower a room with too many bright/strong colors.

One Step Color Palette: Lime, Palmer Pink, and Rugo

Inspiration:
Nature can be a huge inspiration to looking as a way to use color
I like the touch of bright pink in the pattern on the chairs
Degas painting
Gorgeous outdoor setting with beautiful greenery and a touch of blue on the doorway
Wedding bouquet
The blue chairs in this dining room really add an element to the room that would have not been present without the strong use of color
Even fashion accessories like this fabulous Prada bag
I love the subtle use of color in this room
it really is impactful!
The use of blue for the walls works with the more neutral furniture pieces
Love this floral arrangement in an vintage can
Another Degas painting that has such beautiful colors!

Featured Retailer: Jade Nola

I am excited to share with you our Featured Retailer this week, JADE located in Louisiana. They were excited to share with me that they are finally settled in their new flagship store!
They used the Atelier One Step paint to update the table in the dining room.
They then added the Light and Dark wax then Dust of Ages to show off the grain in the reclaimed wood planks.
They used Luxe Grey for the bookshelves in the bedding and bath section.
They kept the shelves simple and just added the Light Wax to give them a nice sheen.

The bookshelves that they had ordered for their tabletop did not arrive in time for their opening,
so they got creative with the Amy Howard At Home Lacquer!
They sprayed industrial shelves with the Golden Egg Lacquer and replaced the thin MDF shelves with 1/4" glass.
They shared with me that "they turned out so well that one customer tried to buy them from us!"
